Frequently Asked Questions - Personal Accident Insurance
[ Expand All | Collapse All ]
- What type of cover does this insurance provide?
- The Personal Accident Plan pays daily cash benefits for hospitalisation and lump sum cash benefits for serious injuries, or death from a covered accident. The policies benefits are paid out even if you already have some existing cover. Active people, who travel and drive, face the added risk of being involved in a fatal or disabling Accident. This policy offers you a way of providing extra protection — for you, your partner, and dependent children.
- What are the benefit amounts paid by the policy?
- The exact benefits — and corresponding premiums — are shown under Benefits of Cover. Just click on Benefits of Cover to see what cover is available to you, your partner, and your children.
- Isn’t cover like this personal accident insurance expensive?
- Quite the contrary! This personal accident insurance policy was designed with affordability in mind. Your premium will not increase as you grow older ... not even if your health changes.
- What does this cover cost?
- The premium rates for this cover are shown under Benefits of Cover in the pull-down menu. Just click on Benefits of Cover to see what cover is available … and view the cost to cover yourself, your partner, and your children.
- Do I have to provide information about my health to qualify?
- Absolutely not. Under this policy for personal accident insurance, there is no need to answer any questions about your health or medical history. However, if you are aware of any pre-existing disease, illness or injury when taking out this cover it may affect your ability to make a claim at a later date.
- Won’t the NHS cover my medical expenses if I have an accident?
- Whilst NHS and private medical insurance may cover your direct medical expenses, neither is designed to cover the many other unexpected expenses that can result from a serious injury. An accident could put you in hospital for weeks — even months. If this happened, how would you pay the rent or mortgage, your bills and all your family’s living expenses? If your injury is permanent, you may also face additional expenses, which you would have to pay out of your own pocket — such as the cost for special equipment or treatment ... or modifications to your home, if needed. The Personal Accident Plan can help you and your family financially if you should become seriously injured in an accident.
- How do the hospital benefits work?
- The hospitalisation benefit is payable when you are admitted to hospital as a result of an accident. The daily benefit of £100 (£50 if over the age 65 and £10.00 for Insured Children) is paid for each full day you spend in hospital, after the first 3 days, and is payable for up to 365 days for each accident. If your covered accident and hospitalisation occurs outside the UK in one of the covered foreign countries, the daily benefit is £500 (£250 if over age 65 and £50 for Insured Children), after the first 3 days, and is payable for up to 30 days.
- Why are the hospitalisation benefits reduced when I turn 65?
- To keep the policies rates as low as possible, we’ve reduced the hospital benefits paid to those age 65 and over by half. This allows us to avoid charging higher premiums for customers over age 65 (statistics show that, the older we get, the more likely we are to be hospitalised because of an accident).
- What do you mean by Permanent Total Disability?
- Permanent Total Disability means the inability to permanently perform any paid work whatsoever for the remainder of your life.
- Who gets the money in the event of a claim?
- All hospital and disability benefits will be paid directly to you (or to the applicable covered family member). Death benefits will be paid to your (or to your covered family member’s) Personal Legal Representative.
